Nadine Mortaja –

Nadine’s essay focuses on the television series Love Island. She looks at the format of the TV show – how it was filmed, what they do with the contestants on the show and how that gets the viewer incredibly interested in watching. She also looked at the effect creating an app had for the viewers, mentioning positivity, inclusion, and a real sense of belonging. While Nadine listed all of the physical and interactive features of the show and app, she does not talk about a theory or model. There is minimal psychological analysis of the contestants and no real scientific theory explaining why people get so hooked on the show. Though her reasoning makes sense logically, the lack of scientific evidence undermines her essay.

Dana Navarro –

Dana’s essay is an excellent explanation of the game Bioshock: Infinite. She starts by explaining the game play itself, and the dives right into explaining every feature and how it affects the player. As well as this, she goes on to talk in depth about how every detail shapes the story and thereby the mentality of the player of the game, making her essay both logical and scientific. While citing her sources she refers to history and the different symbols of both American and Columbian politics, and how the game makers use those to bring the players attention to those specific issues. Her analysis is well thought out, written, and described with good sources.
